Hello friends!
Did you enjoy Halloween? Are you ready for the winter season? Is it just me, or is time flying by lately?
Lots of new content for the docs this month! Real progress all around! I’m exhausted… I need another vacation already 😅
Just kidding, I wouldn’t stop working on this for the world. Especially not with one particular project keeping me awake at night…
Site Configuration
:nem-shield: Fixed several broken links in the old NEM docs site. In the process discovered that the build was broken too, and fixed that as well.
:symbol-shield: Fixed broken links in the REST API docs for Symbol, and provided a default testnet node so endpoints can now be tested directly from the docs.
:symbol-shield: Patched a batch of bogus links to SDK methods discovered while adding dev tutorials. Because…
Review
:task-docs-dev: As announced last month, a new writer has joined to help with the dev tutorials, and I’m struggling to keep up with his pace! Say hi to Zero 👋🏻 The first ones took some heavy reviewing while we aligned on style and tone, so most of my time this month went there.
Management
:task-docs-dev: With a new writer onboard, coordination is key. We’ve set up a detailed task list so he can pick up work at his own pace without waiting on me.
Writing content
:task-docs-textbook: The last two planned pages are done, so the Textbook is now officially complete 🎉 (At least until we decide to add more!)
🇯🇵 The Textbook has also been machine-translated into Japanese (OK, it was ChatGPT 😄) and it is being reviewed by Daoka. You can take a look meanwhile! Huge thanks to community member 44uk for fixing the language switcher!
Also wrote a post-mortem report for a vulnerability recently patched in Catapult. It would have been quite hard to exploit, and in fact no exploit was detected, but we like our blockchain clients airtight around here 😎
Daruma
:daruma-studios-logo-white: Ahhh… XYM City. What can I say, I’m in love with this project.
I’ve been calling it an experiment, but not anymore. I’ve written a full Project Plan and I’m deep into the first draft of the Game Design Document: defining mechanics, player objectives, art styles, character descriptions, even scene scripts and NPC dialogs.
It’s a lot of work, but I am having an absolute blast 🥰
Here you have each task’s relative time distribution for this month:

This is the current status of all documentation tasks. The main line to watch is Symbol Documentation at the top, with all other entries listed as its subtasks. The bars in the chart represent how many of those subtasks have been completed. The change since last month is shown in orange.
Textbook is not 100% complete because there’s a page about cross-chain swaps that is being postponed, but not removed from the plan.

I’ve been focusing on documenting the project this month. That means no flashy progress like modelling new districts or adding NPCs, nothing new to show you yet. But you can still **try the game in your browser!** Mobile controls are not supported yet: you will need to use a keyboard and a mouse for now.
In the meantime, I can share a few excerpts from the Project Plan so you get a clearer picture of what I am aiming for.
